George G. Hemsley CFP®
Principal, Financial Planner and Investment Advisor
George is more than our founder. He’s our pilot and navigator. Fortunately, he has a degree in economics and aviation from Nathaniel Hawthorne College. And he flew for United Airlines for ten years. George can look at your investments from 10,000 feet or take a more down-to-earth approach.
Before founding Hemsley Advisors, George worked at Kidder Peabody & Co., Resource Development Inc. and received his CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designation in 1986. After teaching financial planning at William Rainey Harper College as well as heading the CFP program, First National Bank of Chicago (now Chase), LaSalle Bank (now Bank of America) and Suburban Bank (now BMO Harris), George can explain the most complicated financial concepts in the simplest terms. We all learn from him every day.
George is married to JoAnne, our CFO, who keeps us organized and at the top of our game–especially George. They recently left the suburbs for a condo with a fantastic view of Lake Michigan.
Alexander V. Hemsley CFP®
Financial Planner and Investment Advisor
Alexander was raised on financial planning. He learned from the best and quickly forged his own way while staying true to the Hemsley mission of helping others. He graduated from Syracuse University with three BAs in political science and government, psychology, and economics.
Alexander took that well-rounded education to the Illinois Department of Regulations and Fidelity Investments where he worked as a financial representative. In 2017, he passed his Series 7 and Series 66 exams and received his CFP designation a year later through Northwestern Business School.
After joining Hemsley in 2018, Alexander quickly brought his energy and fresh thinking to the firm by updating the technology and tools our clients need to succeed. On his rare days off, he is planning for a 2021 wedding and enjoys reading, writing and learning foreign languages.
Nicholas M. Martin
Chief Compliance Officer and Financial Planner
Nick is our newest and brightest addition. With a degree in science from William Rainey Harper College, he worked in the Program Management Office at O’Hare International Airport where he helped oversee the $6.6 billion (with a B!) budget for a major expansion project. In 2005, Nick started his own tax preparation company and honed his knowledge of complicated, ever-changing tax laws.
Today, he’s our go-to guy for any questions about tax planning and advice. Nicholas is the firm’s subject matter expert on complicated tax issues that require substantial research and correspondence with the IRS.
He’s also an expert at playing sports like rowing, volleyball, cycling and tennis.
JoAnne Hemsley
Chief Financial Officer
JoAnne helps support the office staff, balance the books, manage our vendors and keep all our trains running on time. In the beginning, she was upstairs raising Alexander and his two sisters (and making her world famous roast beef sandwiches for George’s CFP students) while George was in the basement building a business.
A graduate of Loyola University School of Business, with a concentration in accounting, she started her career as an auditor for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois. JoAnne spent nearly a decade in the international tax department of Beatrice Foods Inc. where she handled tax planning and reporting for about two hundred European subsidiaries. She also helped Conagra Foods on special projects involving the international subsidiaries after they purchased Beatrice Foods.
JoAnne was officially hired by Hemsley Advisors in 2016, although she’s been a trusted partner, supporter and cheerleader from day one. Today, she spends her spare time reading, traveling, cooking and making wine with George.
